Mzansi Super League

Mzansi Super League battor waiting for the ball

The Mzansi Super League is the top-most level of T20 cricket in South Africa currently. It is a newer league, as compared to the other T20 leagues in the world and came into existence only in 2018. This makes Mzansi Super League betting a very interesting task, but BetGold offers some great betting tips and help for bettors on the T20 competition.

The league was founded by Cricket South Africa- the country’s cricket organising body. Since 2018, the league has been played regularly. It is played for a month every year and goes on from November to December and the matches are broadcast all over South Africa and in some other countries.

Mzansi Super League Format

As things stand, a total of six teams play in the Mzansi Super League. The format of the competition sees them play each other twice. They play each other once at home and the second game is played away from home. This is called the round-robin format and gives the team the finalists of the competition. This allows for effective betting in the competition, with BetGold offering some great cricket betting tips for picking who wins the Mzansi Super League.

The team that finishes at the top makes it to the final automatically. The teams that finish second and third play in a knockout play-off. The winner of that game reaches the final, where they face the team that had originally finished as the league leader.

Mzansi Super League Transfer Market & Draft

Players in the Mzansi Super League are signed on the basis of a league draft. Players sign up in a draft and have a set base price. Each team is supposed to sign one marquee player from South Africa itself, while the second phase sees them sign one international marquee player. Apart from that, a total of 14 other players are to be signed to complete the.

The salary of the players that clubs sign depends on when they acquired the player. If a player is signed early in the draft, he is likely to get a higher salary than the player was signed last in the draft. This process is followed in the whole draft.

The winning franchise of the Mzansi Super League receive a prize money of R7 million and the runners up receive R2.5 million every season.

Mzansi Super League Past Seasons

The 2018-19 season of the Mzansi Super League saw Paarl Rocks win their first MSL title. Betting on them  winning the title in 2020 is available on BetGold already. Tshwane Spartans had finished second in the table, while Imran Tahir from the Nelson Mandela Bay Giant picked the most number of wickets.

Considering Tahir’s international exploits and experience, we provide some of the best Mzansi Super League betting tips on the spinner repeating that feat in the 2020 season of the MSL.

The 2018 edition of the competition saw Jozi Stars win the inaugural edition of the MSL. Cape Town Blitz had finished runner-ups, but despite odds favouring them because of Quinton de Kock winning the Player of the Series crown, they couldn’t win the title.

South African international batsmen Rassie van der Dussen had finished as the highest scorer, while Duanme Oliver picked up the most number of wickets. This shows how the MSL allows South African talent to impress and make it big in the international circuit.
