Brazilian São Paulo Youth Cup

The São Paulo Youth Football Cup is a cup competition for sides from the state of São Paulo in Brazil. As the name suggests, it is a youth football tournament, and thus U-20 teams from São Paulo participate in this annual tournament, founded in 1969 and organized by the Paulista Football Federation.

The São Paulo Youth Football Cup is considered one of the most important youth football tournaments in Brazil, and good performances by players in this tournament often lead to them being moved up to their clubs’ first-team squads, and also helps them attract interest from other sides for a transfer.

With a whopping 120 teams taking part, there are a huge number of matches which take place, and thus there are many opportunities for sports betting fans to place their bets and back teams based on their form and the odds offered. Online sports betting websites such as BetGold offer great betting tips for the big matches.

How Does São Paulo Youth Football Cup Works

The format of the São Paulo Youth Football Cup sees 120 teams divided into 30 groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group qualify for the knockout stages, after a round-robin home-and-away series of matches against the other teams in their groups.

While the tournament is primarily for teams from São Paulo, there are often teams from other states which are invited to take part, with teams from Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul, among others, having participated in the past.

The final of the São Paulo Youth Football Cup is always held on 25th January, which is the foundation date of the state of São Paulo.

Most Successful Teams Of The São Paulo Youth Cup

Corinthians are the most successful side in the history of the São Paulo Youth Football Cup, with ten title wins. Fluminense and Internacional are second with five titles each, while São Paulo and Flamengo are third with four titles each.

Thus, it can be seen that the traditional big sides of Brazilian and São Paulo football have usually won this tournament, as they usually have the best young players, and it is difficult for a smaller team to upset the betting odds over such a vast tournament. Internacional are the most recent winners, having defeated Guild on penalties in the 2020 final after a 1-1 draw during regulation time.

State-wise, it is São Paulo who lead the table with 29 wins and a whopping 37 runners-up, meaning that a club from São Paulo state has made it to the final 66 times. While this is to be expected from a tournament largely for clubs from São Paulo, the performance of clubs from Rio de Janeiro has been noteworthy, as they have won the São Paulo Youth Football Cup 10 times, and been runners-up on a further four occasions.

Why Betting On The Copa de São Paulo De Futebol Júnior?

From a betting perspective, it is probably reasonable to back one of the big-hitters of Brazilian football to win the tournament outright, but individual matches offer the chance for odds to be upset, and there can be a lot of value picks for punters in these betting markets.
